Diner En Blanc 2018: Johannesburg Media Launch
On Friday 31 August, the SA Culinary Club in Hobart Centre Bryanston hosted the launch event for the world’s favourite pop up dinner, Diner En Blanc.
Dressed in their whitest finery, the guests made up of celebrities, event partners and media were served a sneak preview into what the evening scheduled for the 29th of September 2018 is going to hold for the some 1500 that will descend on the venue courtesy of Gautrain that still remains a well-kept secret.
The evening was complimented by the exceptional pairing of Idiom Wines and fine dining waters supplied by Acqua Panna and S.Pellegrino alongside the 3 course Michelin Star menu prepared and expertly plated by Chef Wandile Mabaso, a French trained chef hailing fresh from the kitchens of the Le Meurice in Paris under the tutelage of Alain Ducasse.
The menu was crafted to feature Norwegian salmon, Fillet Mignon and a culinary artwork of white chocolate egg shell on a bed of Kenyan coffee ice cream and citrus and hazelnut sponge. The faces of the guests spoke volumes as the plates were set on the tables and devoured. “The 30-day aged fillet mignon was softer than the 90’s RnB playlist,” commented Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, founder of ShowloveAfrica and Team Talk with Tibz.
Rounding off the evening and adding the right ambiance was provided by the live broadcast of Elite Friday Nights, presented by Kgomotso Meso courtesy of Kaya FM, the headline media partner of the 2018 edition of Diner en Blanc. Live interviews were conducted with spokespeople from Diner en Blanc and with Chef Wandile himself, both of which are excited to share the upcoming festivities with the public who are able to sign up to the database and stand a chance of being able to attend the prestigious food and dining experience coming up in a few weeks’ time.
