Le Diner en Blanc Johannesburg and Idiom Wines partner for the 2018 event!

Idiom Wines selected as premium supplier of wines

for the 2018 “Le Diner En Blanc” large-scale event in Johannesburg.

One of Stellenbosch’s most exclusive wine producers, Idiom, is excited to announce their partnership as wine supplier for the ‘Le Diner en Blanc’ event being held in Johannesburg.

Le Diner en Blanc is the world’s largest pop-up dinner event experience, where hundreds of people, all dressed in white will congregate for a massive “chic picnic”.

Idiom is regarded as a premium producer of award-winning wines from the Stellenbosch appellation. One of the icon wines selected for “Le Diner en Blanc” is the Idiom SMV which is one of the most seductive and smooth red wines in the collection, made up of Shiraz, Mourvedre and Viognier. The Idiom SMV was in August 2018 once again awarded the accolade of being included in the revered Sommeliers Selection in the category of ‘Voluptuous and Rich reds’. The 2018 accolade is the second time the Idiom SMV has received the award after also being chosen in 2017. The coveted prize of a Sommeliers Selection seal of approval for gastronomical relevance is judged by a panel of South Africa’s top sommeliers, making the Idiom SMV perfect for an up-market gastronomical event like this.

The Bottega Family, who own Idiom, also produce a white wine called “Idiom Bianco di Stellenbosch” that means “Idiom White wine of Stellenbosch” which will be available at the event.

Notably for the “Wandile Mabaso Culinary Experience”, the flagship Idiom Cape Blend that has on three occasions won a Top 5 national Cape blend award at the Absa Perold Pinotage Competition and twice garnered Top 10 status thus cementing it as a leader in its category, has been selected to be available for the events elite guests.

A signature white designer label prosecco, Astoria 9.5, with its all white packaging, that is imported by the family’s Import division Vinotria, has been chosen as the highly suitable bubbly partner.

Silvana Bottega, from Idiom shared, “It is a privilege to be working with Le Diner en Blanc and to have our wines available at an event that has an established track record of creating large scale elegant “en blanc” picnics around the world. We are looking forward to working with Camille and her team to supply wines that are paired with the culinary delights of Wandile Mabaso.”

The picnic, where guests dress only in white, is focused on gastronomy, and brings to the Johannesburg edition the culinary artistry of South African chef, Wandile Mabaso. Mabaso has worked in New York and Paris, notably for Alain Ducasse and even more notably at Ducasse's three-Michelin star restaurant at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée.

As per the guidelines of the global phenomenon, the location for this happening is only revealed at the last minute and guests are invited through a phased invitation and wines are available on pre-sale through the Le Diner en Blanc e-shop. In South Africa, previous events have been held at various high-profile locations like Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton to football Stadiums and with two of the events having set local records with Zoo Lake bringing together 1366 people and the Wits Library bringing together 1758 people at this large scale “word of mouth” event series.

Idiom Wines is delighted to work with Le Diner en Blanc,

chef Wandile Mabaso (culimary partner), San Pellegrino (the official water partner)

and Gautrain (the exclusive transport partner).
